The Model Essay
Since tommorow is GP, I shall publish what I term a model essay(my essay) for the benefit of those who haven't read such a good one in probably their entire lifetime.
'The truth no longer matters in today's world.' Discuss.
Since the beginning of time, truth has been emphasized by all forms of religions and has been considered a moral imperative. However, in the 21st century, the importance of truth has certainly deteriorated, with skepticism and fanatism injectiong doubts into what we consider the oldest truths. But in the first place, what is considered to be truth? What the person thinks is true? What the society thinks is true? or what is just thought to be truth at that specific place and time? Reality. moreover, is merely a shared illusion. Hence, there is an undeniable inclination to the fact that not only does the truth not matter in today's world, the truths has not mattered since the beggining of time and will not matter in the time to come and ironically, the truth is just a lie created by us humans, to mask the real truth.
Everything in the universe is open to perception and relise entirely on human intepretation. What is thought to be true by someone may be completely absurd to another person, judging the same thing, at the same place, at the same time. As the saying goes, 'there are always flip sides to a coin', and everything appears differently depending on which angle you look at it. A classic example of this is religions. Christianity is divided into many denominations, due to the different intepretations of the same thing, the bible, thereby producing denominations ranging from catholics to protestants, methodists, to anglicans, presbytarians to seventh day adventists, and even islams. All these religions originate from the bible, but are different in more ways than one in how the inteprete the "truth". These denominations, which have been around for a long time, only goes to show that truth has not mattered for a long time.
Einsteins theory of relativity states that the form of everything can only be explained in comparism with another. So therefore, truth must definitely be considered to be what is not false at that exact place and that exact time. However, what is considered true today, may not be considered to be true tommorow, and with today's advancements in science and technology, the importance of truth has deteriorated significantly as truths change from month to month, or even from day to day. Take for example, significant scientific discoveries since ancient times. The sun was thought to revolve around he earth until Copernicus was jailed for blasphemy by saying that the earth revovled around the sun. The earth was though to be square until Christopher Columbus sailed around the world. Therefore, the truth plays a much less important role today as compared to the past as the truth has been known to change, and therefore ironically, should not be taken to be entirely true.
A modern day philosopher once said :' Education serves to teach the youth to question.' Modern day education has thought us to always question the truth, especially in science, where we have been nurtured to not take the truth for granted. In actual fact, thinking critically, critical thinking and creativity are just nicer terms used by educators to encourage students to doubt the truth. It is a general trend that truth has become less importants and problem solving, the keyword of the 21st century requires critical thinking, which encourages the going against of traditions, to questions the truth, and then to solved problems using 'fresh' methods. The emphasis of our education only serves to further undermine the truth in today's world.
However, there are some absolute truths that should never be questioned, even in today's world, like moral truths. For example, it should always be considered true that killing a person is bad, and that the murderer ought to be punished for his evil deeds and such moral truths continue to play a significant role in today's world, and should continue to play this role in the law and order of modern society. However, there is still the age old battle of moral imperatives versus moral compromise, and euthenaesia and capitol punishment being considered as antognistic to moral truths.
The herd mentality in the human race is undeniable and it is not unfair to say that the world revolves around a few leaders, whose views decide what is considered to be truth and what is not, which depends completely on their intepretation of the information they receive. Also, the nihilist view of the fact that there is no absolute truth, leads to the paradox of 'There is no absolute truth.' as if there is no absolute truth, then the statement in itself is not an absolute truth. Since the fundamentals of truth are in fact, very vague, it is possible to conclude that 'The truth no longer matters in today's world.' But then again, there is no absolute truth.
So thats it... What do you think? But I was just kidding, it is no model essay. Write like that and you will get a pathetic 27 for essay, not what many people aim for... Haha... All the best for As people!
