The Painful Sight

The bespactacled young executive casually tossed his half finished cigarette into the drain before he boarded the air conditioned bus to escape the scorching sun and dry off his soaking wet long sleeve shirt.
Anxiously, the man in his sixties next to me in the bus stop got up to look at what had just gone down the drain. (Pun intended) Or so I thought. He waited patiently as the bus screeched out of the stop. Then slowly and painstakingly, he bent over and lulled the grill of the drain out of its place as the sun beat down relentless on his back, and kneeled down to pick up what the executive had left unfinished. Just then, a bus was approaching the stop and he quickly got up to replace the grill to the drain before the bus driver blasted the horn impatiently. He hurriedly got back into the bus stop and left the drain 3 quarters opened.
Wiping the dirt and grime off his sloppy red t-shirt, he lifted the cigarette to his mouth and took a puff, the look of contenment and sheer bliss on his face siganalling that the hard work for that 2 puffs was all worth it.
